CIELO Received Innovation Award from Huntington Beach Chamber of Commerce
Annual honor recognizes business for adding jobs and value to city through innovation
HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif., December 9, 2016 — The Community for Innovation, Entrepreneurship, Leadership & Opportunities (CIELO) was recently honored by the Huntington Beach Chamber of Commerce with its 2016 Innovation Award.
On Thursday, December 1, the Huntington Beach Chamber of Commerce hosted business, community and local civic leaders at its 2016 Business & Leadership Awards Luncheon, which was held at SeaCliff Country Club, to recognize a few outstanding businesses and individuals making a difference in Huntington Beach.
The Innovation Award recognizes a Huntington Beach-based business that has developed a new technology, product, method and/or service, and the result of that innovation has generated job growth and added value for the Huntington Beach business community. Since its founding in 2015, CIELO has been working with low-income and underserved individuals to help them achieve economic self-sufficiency. While improving the lives of many individual residents, CIELO is increasing the overall economic success of the city.
“At its core, CIELO empowers entrepreneurial-minded visionaries from local, low-income communities to build solid, successful business ventures by surrounding them with a network of experts dedicated to helping cultivate their skills and creativity,” said John Hobson, CIELO CEO. “We are incredibly honored to be recognized as the Chamber’s Innovation Award honoree this year. Our focus is on working with individuals to start their own small businesses; we’re proud of the success our clients have seen so far, and we are absolutely delighted that their successes are having such a positive effect on the city of Huntington Beach.”
In addition to the Innovation Award, the Chamber also presented: Business Person of the Year, Excellence in Business, International Athena, Sustainable Business, Outstanding Citizen, Emerging Leader, Chairman’s Member of the Year, Ambassador of the Year, and Robert Mayer Educational Partnership awards.
CIELO was born out of a need to develop initiatives that aid residents in reaching financial prosperity. The Community for Innovation, Entrepreneurship, Leadership and Opportunities (CIELO), was founded in 2015 by a collaboration between Oak View Renewal Partnership (OVRP) and Golden West Community College. What began as a vision to create economic impact in the one-square mile community of Oak View in Huntington Beach, Calif., today stands as an example of creative minds and dedicated leaders coming together to develop economic solutions that impact our region. CIELO’s first year of operations has proven to be a success by launching five businesses and placing 65 program participants in new jobs.
